Aryans in prehistoric times settled in Central Asia, which later around 2nd millennium BC, as isolated groups of people had appeared in Iranian plateau and India. The word Aryan, for the first time was mentioned in AVESTA as the "AERYAN VAEJAH" (Land of Nobles) as one of sixteen lands including, Khwarazmia, Soghdia, Margiana, Balkh, Hilmand and etc (dated around 18th century BC).
In the 19th century Europe, the notion of "Aryan race" arose and was propagated most assiduously by the "CONTE DE GOBINEAU" the French ambassador to Iran upon his return to Europe and later by his disciple "HOUSTON STEWART CHAMBERLAIN". In the beginning they used the term “Aryan” more restrictively was refer to the Indo-Iranian languages, but soon after have became as synonym for "Indo-European" languages!
De Gobineau, equipped Europeans of 19th century with the notion of Aryanism, who as the parvenus and upstarts of that era were desperately in search for a legitimate identity and a civilised historical-upbringing, and all of the sadden, Europeans and now all the westerners have become the heirs of the ancient Aryan civilisations, and of a -- fabricated “Aryan race”, who were considered to be responsible for all the progress that mankind had made!
However, if we want to use the term of “Aryan” correctly, even we can not categorise Western-Iranians (such as Persians and Kurds) as Aryans, since “Aryan” was not the name of a race, but in fact the name of an eastern-Iranian group of people (such as ancient Parthians and modern Sistanis). On the other hand, if we want to formulate “Aryan” as a racial issue (like westerners), subsequently, only Aryans in the world are Iranians, -- mixed with non-Iranian races or not; -- because the Eastern and Western-Iranians, have been mixed for thousands of years, and as a result of that mixture (even with non-Iranians) the modern Iranians are the blends and the heirs of those ancient people; and even for argument sake, if one wants to deny the mixture of the Eastern and western-Iranians with each others, in spite of everything, today Iranians are closer relative to ancient Eastern-Iranians than Europeans or any other nations for that matter!
Nonetheless, aside from historical perspective, talking about various races, definitions of various races and who really belongs to what race is really useless. Hitler had defined a set of imaginary characteristics for physical identification of Aryans. It really is a waste of time to think about races.
We know that in our country the former regime always talked about the “Aryan race” and that Iranians should be proud of being Aryans etc. That kind of national pride is not productive and in fact creates animosity towards many other ethnic groups in our country.
We Iranians have impeccable heritage through our history and culture, strength through our relationships, cultural identification and bonds, and vision as we always strive for the best in everything, including democrac;, and therefore always is the best to be proud of our heritage, strength and vision than race.
